MAMA II (2009)

Materials:- Latex, animal fleece, goats hair, human hair, thread and beads.
Dimensions:- Variable, Height 15cm, Width 40cm, Depth 40cm.

The piece Mama II takes insight from the practice in Western civilisation of using the phallic symbol (albeit stylised into architectural columns or pillars) to represent power and authority. However in this instance the soft and flaccid nature of the piece gives it an ambiguous sexuality, since it is neither quite male nor female. The beading decorates, however due to the phallic nature of the piece the embellishment seems culturally inappropriate.
